30 Days Without Cable: Day 1

Posted by Bronwyn Lewis on Jan 16, 2008 in media |

I’m fed up. Fed up with the cable companies and with the fact that I only watch 5 channels but have to pay for 70. I’ve been talking about canceling my cable TV for awhile — today, I finally did it.

Of course, Time Warner didn’t make it easy (it took half an hour on the phone), especially since I want to keep my cable internet service. Cable TV? Yeah, I can live without that. But I need my internet access…

In fact, that’s how I’m planning on getting all of my TV for the next 30 days. Most (if not all) of the major networks provide their shows on their websites with limited sponsored ads now. There’s also Hulu (which I will admit, I foolishly dismissed originally… thanks to my friend Sean for correcting me), Joost, Miro, the iTunes store, and I am sure I will discover others in the next 30 days. Or I may just end up watching a lot of YouTube… who knows.

I’ll even discuss the “shady” world of torrenting, because, well, it is an option for TV.

So, if you know of any cool sites, software, online stores, etc., for getting my TV fix, please let me know. I’ve got 30 days to fill up, after all. =)

I love Miro for torrent feeds– it’s amazing when you pair it with:

and the feeds on mininova.com
